This fitness game was originally available on the Xbox and PC as "Yourself Fitness." I have been using it on and off since 2005, with a long break when someone "borrowed" it and I never saw it again. I ordered it for the wii in late March, and have been using it somewhat consistently since then. I have lost 11 pounds and a few inches in 22 weeks, working out once to four times a week. (I just completed my 36th workout today, so it averages out to about 1.63 times a week.)What I like:*it's cheap. You buy the game and use it at home, so you don't need expensive gym clothes, a gym membership, or expensive and space-consuming equipment. You also don't waste time and money getting to the gym and back again.*you really sweat with this program; you feel muscle pain, too--ie, My Fitness Coach does what it was designed to do, and it does it well.*it gives you the option to turn down the uninspired and uninspiring workout music that comes with it, while still allowing you to listen to Maya, who likes to throw in a few tips and words of encouragement now and then. I have my pc hooked up to my tv, so before I start My Fitness Coach, I turn on grooveshark or iTunes--if I love the music I'm hearing, I work out twice as hard.*it's very customizable. It gives you so many choices. You can work out anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, and you can focus on cardio, flexibility, upper, lower, or core. You even get to pick your workout environment--my personal favorite is the dojo. The tempo and difficulty of your workouts is even dictated by you: if you tell Maya that the workout is too easy or too difficult when she asks, she will adjust your next workout accordingly.*even if you're as lazy as I am, you get results. When I first started back in March, I was working out about 3-5 times a week for at least 30 minutes (up to 45 minutes) to kick-start my metabolism. Now I am lazy, lazy, lazy, yet I am still getting results. I now do one or two 15 minute sessions a day for at least 4 days a week, and while I haven't lost any more weight in a few weeks, I have lost some fat and gained some muscle.*I look dumb and I don't care. I am very uncoordinated and used to be the one in the back of the gym bumping into other people, huffing and puffing louder than the music, etc. With My Fitness Coach, nobody sees me sweating, stumbling, swaying, grunting, or being generally ungraceful. Really liberating. If you're socially awkward penguin, this workout game is perfect for you.*if you stick with this game, you see significant improvements in strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance over a relatively short period of time. For instance, when I started in March, I couldn't even finish one set of heel jacks. Now I easily do two sets, back-to-back. Also, I couldn't kick with a hop, so I'd just "sink down low," as Maya says, and do it the modified way. Eventually, I was able to add the hop, and I noticed my kick getting higher and higher over time. Now I can bring my ankle up to about naval level when I kick.*the periodic fitness evaluations are fun and motivating, and allow you to measure your progress objectively-----------------------------------------------------What I don't mind but think could be better:*graphics are very basic, really haven't been improved since the game was first made for the xbox and pc back in 2004*some of the exercises take up too much space in my living room. I compensate for this by turning at angles to the tv sometimes, and just by being hyper-aware of my big scary hearth when I stray too close. In short, I feel that My Fitness Coach could be a game-changer for the right type of user. I know I wouldn't have lost my recent 11 pounds without it.
