As an avid user of Konami's Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party games for the Wii, I was very excited about the original Just Dance when it first debuted -- only to find myself frequently frustrated by the extremely poor motion tracking, which led to constant "misses" even when I hit the moves exactly right. With games like this, I don't feel that the aim is necessarily perfect scoring, just having fun -- but it gets frustrating to consistently get negative feedback when putting in your best effort.OVERALL: With the new Just Dance 2, it's like a whole different game. The motion tracking is VASTLY improved, making for a much more rewarding gameplay experience. It's still not spot-on (in large part thanks to the limitations of the Wii's own motion-tracking system), but if you have played Just Dance 1, you will absolutely notice the difference. The track list is extensive (about 40 songs included), and the choreography more interesting, complex, and full-body. The graphics are more elaborate and detailed, though that was never a major point of interest for me. Frankly, in comparison, my beloved DDR is pretty boring and static -- and lately the DDR mat is gathering dust in the closet while I happily flip on the Wii every day for a few songs of Just Dance 2. The dance experience is just much richer, and -- for someone who is not a hardcore DDR fan & into the J-pop songs on DDR (as I am not) -- the song selection is leagues better than that of DDR.SONGS: There's a nice selection of recent pop hits (Avril Lavigne, Vampire Weekend, Ke$ha, Ting Tings, etc.) and older favorites (some great 80s numbers like Madonna's "Holiday" and Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" -- and "Proud Mary" will give you a whole new respect for Tina Turner), and I am particularly excited about the ability to download songs from the new and expanding Just Dance online catalogue. I am, however, deeply disappointed that there is no way for Just Dance 1 owners to unlock the contents of the first game via Just Dance 2, as DDR Hottest Party offers, and I don't understand why this was not included as an option. I would really like to see this implemented, and I think the addition of challenges to unlock new songs (as in the DDR games) would add more long-term interest to the game.PHYSICALITY: The new "Just Sweat" gameplay option is a nice addition, though its peculiar point system doesn't directly correspond to calories burned or anything so convenient. To my best estimation, 1000 "sweat points" is equivalent to roughly 100-150 calories. Do be warned that if you decide to change your workout level (there are three options of goals to aim for: easy, intermediate, intense -- intense is about 6 songs per day), it will erase all of your workout data thus far, which is annoying. Every song indicates the difficulty of choreography (on a scale of 1 to 3), and the intensity level as far as aerobic effort (likewise on a scale of 1-3). The game offers an option to sort songs by choreography difficulty and intensity level, which is really useful if you want to warm up to more intense songs, and/or keep to songs that are simpler in their choreography. The two don't always go together -- there are some songs with complex choreography that rate low on the effort scale, and some that are "simple" but will get your heart pumping. I find this helpful, as my willingness to sweat it out definitely outstrips my ability to correctly execute complicated dance steps. ;)MOTION-TRACKING: You do need to hold the remote as indicated, as it's sensitive to the angle, and you'll get better results by really putting your oomph into the move -- regardless of what people say about playing the game on the couch. It's sometimes taken me a few tries through a song to figure out what angle they *really* want my arm at, or what slight imprecision in the non-action part of a move is throwing my score off, but it's actually surprisingly easy to work it out, if the game is sometimes a little...precise in its demands. Even so, the scoring is a bit more generous than in Just Dance 1, and you won't find yourself as heavily penalized for not getting it *exactly* right as in the previous versions -- high scores can be yours, even with occasionally imprecise motion tracking!I've had the game for a few weeks now, and Just Dance 2 has quickly become my favorite game purchase of the year, and probably my favorite game for the Wii. With the improvements made in this version, I already can't wait to see what Just Dance 3 will look like. One of the things I like about the Wii game console is the fact that it provides the potential to get people up and moving, rather than simply sitting and operating simple controls with their fingers while staring stupidly at a TV screen. I bought "Just Dance 2" for a few reasons:1. To get more exercise myself2. To hopefully get my stepson and my step-granddaughter up and moving and exercising more3. To provide a form of entertainment that is really fun, as well as interactiveThis game succeeds at all these! While I do have to admit that I am a generation or two older than most of these songs are intended for, there are a few that I can relate to and provide more than enough aerobic bouncing and moving to work up a sweat! When my 11 year old stepson visited the first weekend I had this game, and he was tempted to turn on Nickalodeon and simply veg out AGAIN, I suggested he take a look at this game. He didn't want to stop playing it all weekend!! He was up and moving and dancing as much as he could! And when his dad wouldn't play with him, my stepson and I had "dance battles" and played "Simon Says." This kid is a total video game junkie, and overweight to boot, so it made his dad and I so happy to see him so excited about moving!!The game itself is fairly basic, though admittedly I don't think I've explored all the options, yet. The dances to the songs seem difficult, but really they are fairly easy to follow - the real trick is to add "finesse" to them! There are several different ways multiples of people can play: Classic (simply dancing along to the songs), Duet, Simon Says (individuals are provided with instructions to either stop, clap, or spin at various times during thier portion of the dance).I can see where, eventually, this game might get old and a bit boring. Once one has mastered the dances or is bored with the songs, the game will no longer be played. But, is that really any different than any other video game on the market? And, I would suspect UBI Soft will develop a Just Dance 3 by then, yes?My only wish, and I'm not sure how sucessful this would be, is to make these games with music geared toward certain genres. For example: Classic Rock, Country, Jazz. A lot of the songs on this game are ones I'm not familar with at all, are not of my generation, and I feel as though I'm simply following the moves. That leaves me with perhaps 5 songs that I can really get into. If there were dance video games with specific genres then I could have the ability to have truly 30 - 40 songs available to me, and that might make the video game last longer. However, ANYTHING that gets my overweight stepson and overweight step-granddaughter up and moving - and enjoying it - is deserving of 5 stars +++!!Just Dance 2 is fun to play and a great tool for working out. It has 44 tracks, ranging from Elvis and the Jackson 5 to Rihanna and the Pussycat Dolls, plus there are additional tracks that can be downloaded for a fee (I'll definitely be getting Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild). You hold the Wiimote in your right hand and mirror the dancers on the screen. I've found that occasionally there are moves that are a little difficult to do with the Wiimote in hand. The game has more features than the first one, including several different play modes such as Duets, Dance Battle, and Just Sweat. I've primarily been using the Just Sweat mode, for my morning work out (yes, I find it fun enough to get up an hour earlier than usual). It tracks regular points (how well you follow the movements of the dancers on the screen) as well as sweat points (amount of energy used). From what I've read online, 4.2 sweat points equals about 1 calorie burned, so in the Intense program (2000 sweat points/day), you use up about 475 calories. If there could be a way to input your personal stats (like on Wii Fit) so just the calories burned could be measured, it might be a more useful feature. As it is, the sweat points mostly keep you on track, charting your progress over the course of the week. Also, in this mode there are breaks between each song, as your points are tallied on two separate screens and your next track is loaded. I keep meaning to check out the Non-stop Shuffle mode to see if the breaks would be shorter, for a more intense workout. There are no "bad" ratings of your moves with this version, just an "x" if you didn't hit the mark, which seems friendlier.I always have fun with this, and trying to break your old point record is an incentive for trying a little harder (and burning more calories). Whether you're in this for a moderate exercise program, or just a way to incorporate more movement into your days, go for it. I haven't played my original Just Dance game since getting this one. Looking forward to seeing what Just Dance 3 will have to offer (release date in 2011).We have kids that range from 3 year old to 42 :)We just got the game and we all love it! The three year old just dance because he sees the rest of us (no Wii remote for him though). The 12 and the 8 year old loves the dance, and it is great we can play all together. It is great also you can play with party of 8 if you wish. Also looks like you can have tones of fun doing a good workout: perfect when the weather does not invite to be outside. And yes, it is just dance, nothing more!Creo que es un buen título sí aún se cuenta con un wii o wii u, aunque las compras de canciones en línea ya no están disponibles (debido a que se terminó su soporte por parte de nintendo).More of a game than an exercise CD, but hey... it'll teach you lots of different dance moves. If you are not in good shape, it'll get you in shape. You will work up a sweat with this. I use it all by myself, so you can use it at a party, or just with a friend or two, or alone. The variety of different music and dances for all levels and the intensity of the workouts makes me give this Just Dance 2 a 4 stars. I bought it years ago and I still use it today for workout when I want something fun to do. Also worth mentioning: lots of fun as a game with the kids!
