update:: 9.18.2022still using this controller to skip through all the sumeru dialog in genshin... bless this controller---------------------------------------update:: 2.17.2022no longer own a switch but I still use this controller for my PC. it's great for skipping dialog in Genshin Impact.. I just turn the auto press button on and afk. Really wish genshin allowed to skip all dialog with a hold button or something. Maybe not be useful if you don't play genshin with a controller tho.works perfectly on PC.. I did have to do the hold combination for 2 seconds to switch it to xinput? format? holding - + home and select buttons all at the same time.other directions i've figured out:holding the TURBO button while using the right joystick up or down will change how fast the button triggers. i think there are 3-4 speeds? you have to go up on the joystick multiple times or down multiple times to change the speed settings.pressing the home button clears everythingturbo + button once makes it so you can press the button and it'll turbo while heldturbo + button twice makes it so that the button triggers on it's own----------------UPDATE::after using this exclusively for Animal Crossing, I've decided that the TURBO function is amazingly well thought out. WHILE there ARE NO DIRECTIONS.. I figured out how it works with just playing around. The fact that you can change the speed, allow MULTIPLE buttons to automatically trigger or trigger the button by JUST HOLDING IT DOWN is saving my fingers a lot of stress. By pressing the home button, it turns off all the turbo actions which is very nice. There might still be more functionality that I don't know of because of the lack of directions, but for what I want to do (pick up items by just holding the Y button instead of tapping it constantly and auto shaking trees or mining rocks or just auto going through dialog without having to spam A is very nice).---------------------------------------Overall the controller seems well made. All the seems are flush so there isn't any sharp corners when holding the controller. So far, the only game I've used this with is ANIMAL CROSSING, so it's a very casual game. It works fine for that. I don't know how this controller would fair with more competitive games like smash or alike. For $19 I'd recommend it.The two main features, turbo button and dpad layout swapping are nice. I use the TURBO function when picking stuff up in Animal Crossing. I can just walk/run around and it'll pick up stuff automatically instead of having to press y every second. I don't really use the dpad feature that much since I don't play smash or anything like that. I have no real preference. Just know if you use the dot layout, they're quiet recessed. The cable is a very nice length. I was considering a controller with a detachable cable, but the problem with those is that the micro usb port can wear over time and cause intermediate disconnects. Maybe if it was USB TYPE C I would have considered a detachable cable controller more. But until then, a non-detachable cabled controller is better, IMO.The joysticks are very smooth and work perfectly. (FOR NOW - We'll see how they hold up over time and if they start drifting, but first impressions - they're very nice. I will update the review as needed in the future)My main issue, and this may not concern many, is that the controller feels much bulkier than using the joycons. After using the slim profile of the joycons, I've become used to it. Not a HUGE issue, but if you're someone who likes the slimmer profile of the joycons, this may not be for you. I can get used to it because I've used xbox controllers in the past, but even the xbox controllers feel slimmer than this one. Obviously this is a personal preference thing.Additionally, the buttons have a nice "press" to them. They have a little bump, BUT after the bump.. the button needs to be pressed even MORE to actually actuate, which is pretty annoying, IMO. If you do a light press, just enough to hear and feel the bump, the button doesn't actually actuate the press.. you have to press slightly MORE to actually have it register. After using the B button more, it seems like it will sometimes register and other times I will need to apply extra pressure for it to register. Very annoying. So for people with smaller hands.. I would say avoid this controller.Overall, I'd say it's worth getting for ANIMAL CROSSING.. it can be helpful when crafting or picking things up or farming branches. You can set the turbo to press Y automatically and A automatically.Nintendo's Pro controller is really enjoyable to use The HORI controller is a bit on the awkward side and feels more rough to use. On the plus side (I think), the directional pad is harder to hit on accident, which can be a real pain in Smash Bros. Additionally, this controller seemed to have less snapback problems on the control stick than the Pro controller I started with (although that could just be a defect rather than the normal performance, but defects are common in controllers, I believe). This controller is also better for doing tilt attacks to some attacks, as it becomes harder to do smash attacks. At the same time, it feels like this controller sometimes fails to register the movements properly and I get stuck walking when I try to run, even when I double tap sometimes. This makes me think the HORI controller is less responsive than the true Pro controller. Additionally, this controller is super loud, which is partially because it has worse control sticks, but also, every button on the controller seems to make a lot of noise no matter what. You probably will drive someone insane if they are trying to sleep and your noise is not insulated from them. Lastly, although the snapback on this controller was infrequent at first, it seems like it is equal, if not worse than the official Pro controller after you have used it enough. I have had inputs happen that seemed completely impossible. I still think once I adjust to the controller enough, I can play around all of these problems, but this is still a very loud controller, probably the loudest I ever used.Oh yeah, and for the directional pad... when I first got it, it almost felt broken. I have not really tested it, but thankfully it feels more properly balanced (for some reason) after I used the controller long enough. I tried playing Skullgirls with it but it did not feel especially useful even though I heard this style was better for 2D fighters. However, the pro-controller directional pad is pretty stiff, although I still think it could work better. At least HORI has come out with a dedicated fighting controller since the first time I looked at this controller. It looks like it does not use this weird directional pad style either. One last thing... The cord is more ideal for me, which is probably why I probably would still use this controller over the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Not only does it work through a true physical connection, but it also has a great length to the cable. It should be functional in most setups. I do not like relying on something with an internal battery that might fail one day, as well as something that might be impacted by other wireless signals. The main downside is that you always need to occupy a USB slot. Not sure what is a good way to extend the USB on Nintendo Switch either.Only had it a few weeks and it has stick drift, but the controller is nice and comfortable to useEn mi opinión hay ciertos juegos que definitivamente se disfrutan más con un Gamepad. Product arrived in retail packaging, sealed and undamaged. Worked immediately.First thing to note is that this controller feels very premium. The ABXY, shoulder buttons and both sticks feel solid and well constructed, and you can tell the "budget" nature of this controller has been achieved by sacrificing features (no rumble or motion controls) over build quality, which is refreshing. The removable D-pad feature seems redundant to me, as when the D-pad is on the controller works great. When you remove it however, the buttons underneath are quite deeply recessed into the body, and are a little difficult to press comfortably (for me).Lastly, and this is purely anecdotal (as I have quite small hands), the Horipad feels quite bulky to begin with, maybe slightly bigger than an xbox controller. That said, nothing is hard to reach, and using the pad is super comfortable, just took some getting used to.I might regret giving the fifth star to this product if its performance doesn't hold up over time, but given how good it feels, I'm hoping it will.Definitely a quality feeling pad, and definitely no "madcatz-esque" buy one-a-month garbage that I remember from the PS1 era.Whilst overall I do recommend this controller if you're looking for a WIRED controller on a BUDGET I've firstly got to address that I'm dissapointed with HORI Quality Control because straight out of the (lovely official-looking) box the face piece of the controller clearly had very noticeable directional scratches on it. These scratches were clean grooves and went across the holes for the buttons however the buttons were not damaged so clearly the damage was done in the assembly process before the buttons were added, and the faceplate should have been rejected before assembly. So this controller is very clear that it does not include motion control, NFC for Amiibos, or Rumble, but what it does have is a good budget price point, a comfortable sized grip and high quality USB cable with good length. The lack of additional features makes it relatively lightweight, which is no bad thing. The DPad is a really weird hybrid I've never seen before which gives you the choice between the OG console style buttons and the lite style DPad, however this weird cap leads to a very mushy response, and no protection from pushing the whole dpad down and hitting all the buttons at the same time. It's nice the have the option and I'm really curious to see if anyone actually finds a practical/comfortable use for the buttons beneath the DPad cap, which are positioned very low.The best part of this pad is the EXCELLENT turbo function, which makes crafting and purchasing stacks of items in animal crossing a lot better. The USB A plug on the end can only plug into the full size Switch console dock or a hub, but not directly into the USBC port on the switch or lite. The grip is massively more comfortable to hold for longer periods of time than the switch itself, it is far better ergonomically speaking.Summary: Good for a budget, good for low speed games ie Animal Crossing (especially with the programmable turbo button), but dissapointing QC allowing scratched face plates, and mushy DPad making retro gaming a bit of hassle, it's no good for Smash, but great for other games. Cable means you don't have to stress about keeping it charged, but doesn't offer any effective lag reduction as the dpad is so mushy anyway.I have had this controller for about 5 months now and can confidently say that this is a good controller; it works very well but is certainly missing some features. The D-Pad detaches and as such is not as robust as one might want, the button action isn't perfect. My Y button also has a bad action and is difficult to know when an input has been registered, making it tricky in online multiplayer games. It also does not have the gyroscope, NFC or bluetooth advantages of the Pro Controller but at such a lower price it can hardly be faulted for that. On the other hand, for the price (around £25 at time of purchase), I expected a slightly higher polish on it with respect to the buttons (the action of the triggers is fine but leaves a little to be desired), but I'm relatively happy with the joysticks though they can leave your thumbs a bit strained. For a few more pounds I could have forgiven this in favour of the gyroscope or maybe even it being wireless but as is I have to give the controller 3 stars as it works completely fine, but just rough enough around the edges that for the price I think it could be improved. That said, this is probably the best way to get a proper handheld controller for your switch if you want to sample it before committing to a Pro Controller. The two games I think it's most useful for so far have been mario kart - it is far easier to hold this and use the joysticks than a single joycon - and fortnite (for obvious reasons).El control tiene un funcionamiento correcto.
