Tl;dr, Hellpoint is, as mentioned in the title of this review, a Soulslike game. As so many reviewers were kind enough to mention in their very critical reviews, that means it's something like dark souls. If you hate that style of gameplay, the game is probably not for you. If you DO like Soulslike games, keep in mind the Switch port has some technical issues, but is still a fantastic play.Longer review (because the game DOES deserve it):Hellpoint is an incredibly cool take on the Soulslike style. It carries the vibes of Event Horizon, a little bit of Dead Space, and a whole lot of Souls. But to end a review with just those comparisons isn't fair to the game or the talented creators.Creature design is very cool, with different areas of the Irid Novo being home to enemy sets that are unique, and while some of the shadows do make navigation hard (have I been down this hallway before? or is this just another dark hallway?), each zone you explore does have a unique and memorable feel. Scattered throughout the ship are lots of hidden secrets, and it feels rewarding to learn more about the in-game lore for more than just story actualization purposes.Every weapon is unique and will dramatically affect your experience in combat, as will armor and other modifications you make to your character. But perhaps one of the things that, I feel, helps Hellpoint stand above games in its vein: you CAN adjust the difficulty level. Maybe not to the level of it being a walk through the demon-infested park, but you can certainly make your time playing easier—OR harder, if that's your jam—using in game totems you find as a reward for exploring. (Imagine the uproar from purists—a SOULSLIKE? that you can make EASIER? Absolute sacrilege.)One of the persistent complaints I see regarding the game is that character creation is fairly limited. While Hellpoint may not allow for a lot of highly personalized character creation like some of your favorites, and you won't be able to create an absolute abomination of a playable character, I've always felt like in the end the armor covers up my character's features in other games anyway. The same is true here. Your armor and weapons will change your look dramatically, and besides, if you're only staring at your character, chances are you'll get your butt kicked by something in the shadows.Other complaints involve one of the other features that sets this game apart from other soulslikes: a dedicated jump button. Including this allowed for platforming sections and jumping puzzles, which are fun new ways to explore. Plus, it's nice to be able to jump around like a maniac as I tend to do in every other game I play (because jumping FEELS faster than walking, right?). That said, jump controls are occasionally imprecise, and a well timed or well placed jump (or a platform with imprecise hitboxes) can lead to a dramatic fall.I honestly would have given this game five stars (the vibes are immaculate!) if it weren't for one MAJOR pressing issue: The Switch port is not entirely stable. As other reviews mention, the current build crashes. A lot. There are also bugs throughout (occasionally getting stuck in walls, having controls freeze out of the blue, etc.), and with how difficult the game gets, you definitely can grow to resent lost progress (or lost boss fights, if the game crashes mid-finishing blow). I'm a pretty patient gamer, though, so I tend to just boot it back up and try again. That said, if a patch is ever released that is able to resolve some of those issues, this game WILL get a 5 from me, because even with those issues, I still love it.If you're a fan of science fiction, of Soulslike RPGs, and of generally cool worldbuilding, it's worth a shot. Just know what you're getting into, and don't be disappointed that it is what it says on the box.overall a good gamePerson who received this game loves it!!!It's a fun title that you can play with online co-op. Very much inspired by dark souls but less difficult especially with a friend. The addition of platforming adds to the exploration and makes it feel fresh. I recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the souls like genre. It reminds me of older games like tomb raider, the graphics are a little better but it has that feel. I am not a big gamer just got a switch to get entertained while I travel. It’s a good game 7/10 and it was not expensive. The case looks great and arrived in excellent condition. I can't play the game unfortunately because I got scammed.Kind of slow but is not up to them, the game looks dope actually.
